SAQA 2015 Auction donation

Seagull Sunset, Sherry Davis Kleinman’s SAQA 2015 Auction Donation

A lone hungry seagull watching me eat lunch at the Malibu Pier was my inspiration for my SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) 2015 Auction Donation.

Eyes watching every bite we ate...I had to take his photo.

My 12″ x 12″ piece Seagull Sunset was first drawn and then painted on artist canvas with water soluble crayons, colored pencils, and airbrush paint.  See my process below:

Pencil drawing first followed by paint.

HI Sherry, Delighted to receive this and catch up on your art and family.  I did check out Brit months ago but was so impressed with her website now……pillows and furniture! How great.  Her work looks great in Santa Monica. Courtney and Stephanie both look so happy as mothers.  They will discover for themselves how fast their children grow. Keep in touch. Give my regards and love to all. Hugs,Chris

Hi Sherry, Some really fun and beautiful quilts donated this year. Was the sea gull picture taken at The Malibu Farm when we went for the birthday lunch? Love, colors you chose. Thanks for sending the info and donation form. I’ll fill mine out and send in to the Cancer Support Community. Cheryl

Thank you, Sherry! What an honour to a seagull to be immortalized that way! I think they are funny, greedy, impudent and sharp-eyed observers – and *fantastic flyers*! I love them! They bring summertime here by appearing suddenly in April (one morning you hear their screaming in your bed). Many stories about them…both about those impudent fellows here in Helsinki – and about their timid, innocent cousins by big lakes. 🙂

Thanks Maria….there have been many seagulls I have enjoyed watching over the years….from childhood visits to New Jersey shore to the beaches of Florida and now in California. Fascinating creatures.
